Do I need a DBS check to start walking?
No — you can create your profile and accept bookings straight away. The DBS badge appears once you've uploaded your certificate. Many owners book unverified walkers for their first sessions, especially after a meet & greet.
How exactly does the funded DBS work?
After you complete your 3rd walk on Barkevo, we automatically email you a voucher code for a basic DBS check via our partner. Enter the code at checkout — it covers the full £18 cost. Once you receive your certificate (usually 2–4 weeks), upload it to your profile and the DBS badge goes live.
Do the 3 walks need to happen within a certain time?
We ask that you complete your first 3 walks within 60 days of signing up. This is to make sure the programme rewards walkers who are genuinely active on the platform.
What is a basic DBS check?
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is a government-issued background check that shows whether you have any criminal convictions. A basic check covers unspent convictions and is the standard for dog walkers and pet sitters. It costs £18 and is valid indefinitely (though many owners prefer walkers who renew regularly).
How do I get paid?
You connect your bank account via Stripe when you set up your profile. After each completed walk, funds are transferred within 2 business days — no invoicing, no chasing.
Can I set my own prices?
Yes, completely. You set your hourly rate and it applies to all bookings. You can update it anytime from your profile settings.
